The champion of Indian political scene, the Congress, has done it again. It has now decided to further divide the existing vote bank in the country and consolidate its own by proposing division of reservations applicable under Indian law.
The party has proposed to introduce the formula of providing reservation to Muslims in government jobs. Apart from this Congress has also picked up on Nitish Kumar's successful scheme of dividing the most backward vote by division of Dalits and creation of a Maha Dalit class. While the first step aims at targeting the vote base of Samajwadi Party, the second aims to marginalise the ruling Bahujan Samaj party in Uttar Pradesh.
The move seems to be a masterstroke just ahead of polls. We may now see major gains for Congress in UP, and it may surprise many people by coming up with more than its expected share of seats in the assembly polls.
