Adieu Maruti 800

Maruti 800 was the car that changed the country. The car was the sole reason that the country got into an overdrive. It aspired the middle classes that they could own a possession and flaunt it. The car became a symbol of achievement of the middle class and also caused the downfall of the Congress which had till then kept the country in a tight leash.
Though the delivery of this vehicle has been stopped by the company in several cities across the country, due to environmental norms compliance conditions, this car has stood the test of time on Indian roads. The car unshackled the country, everyone wanted to own a 800 and there was an even a premium amount on the vehicle. But the most important thing that it did was to make people try and get out of the license quota raj regime. Though it took a few years for the middle class to gain its confidence, but Maruti can truly be called the one thing that aspired and filled the masses with the will to grow and unshackle. It was the complete opposite of what Hamara Bajaj (sic) stood for.
