It was a shocker when I heard that Sania Mirza had announced that she will quit tennis after getting married and that she had left the decision on her husband.
Though it will be a personal decision for Sania Mirza if she wants to quit tennis. Whenever she wants to do it. However, she must remember one thing that she has been seen as a person who has stood up to societal pressure and taken on the fundamentalist elements within her community. She was seen standing up to the mullahs who had demanded that she cover up before going on court. This is not a frivolous issue and will affect the womenfolk in a community known for its backwardness. Any decision taken by her will have far reaching impact. So please act cautiously.
